In limited circumstances, Texas law allows you to remove information about an arrest, charge, or conviction from your criminal records. This means that all information about the offense is destroyed. Once your record is expunged, you may deny the incident occurred. With limited exceptions, you will no longer need to tell landlords, employers, or others who ask about that criminal history.
The Texas Law Expunction Project has opened its intake window for Spring 2016. If you are interested in obtaining help with your criminal record (expunction or sealing), complete this survey as soon as possible to apply to participate in the Texas Law Expunction Project’s next intake sessions (February 2016).
Please note that sending your information does not guarantee that the Clinic will be able to assist you. If they are able to set an appointment for an intake session, applicants must bring a copy of their DPS criminal history report. This may be obtained in Austin, Texas at 108 Denson Drive ($24.95 cash or check). Applicants will be fingerprinted and the report will be mailed or available for pick-up a within a few days. Applicants may also gather and bring court records to assist in determining eligibility for assistance.
