This month Reentry Roundtable Chair Reggie Smith will begin a new position as Peer Services Team Lead for Behavioral Health at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. This transition supports his passion for peer support, especially as it relates to reentry.
Peer support involves relationship-based, recovery-focused personalized support services delivered by people with first-hand experience. Peers offer emotional support, share knowledge, teach skills, provide practical assistance, and connect people with resources, opportunities and communities of support.
At this time, Reggie has let the Roundtable know that the demands of his new position will likely prevent him from serving as Past Chair on the Executive Committee during the next fiscal year. He has asked Helen Gaebler, current Past Chair, to fulfill this role in his stead.
The Roundtable congratulates Reggie on this exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals reentering our community!
